IRCAM is a musical research institute in Paris that is one of the best places for computer music and acoustical research. I am leaving the post of system manager and we need to start looking for another person. That person must know well C programming, the 4.2 kernel and have experience in running machines in a network situation. Applications of interest would be large data bases applications, compositional programs, and signal processing packages especially using bitmaped graphics. We have a 780, 750, and 4 Suns stations all running 4.2 on an ethernet cable. IRCAM is directed by Pierre Boulez who draws a great deal of attention to IRCAM. Apple and Yamaha have a great deal of interest in the work going on at IRCAM. Needless to say it is a unique place. The job is boss of the system group (2 other permanent positions) and at the moment my salary is 22,500 FF per month which is a good salary in france especially for a institute of this type. If you have interest in the job please send me your resume as soon as possible as there are other people who want the job and we need to start a real search. I hope to return to berkeley by the 1 september, but that is a bit flexable. The job is a permanent position which is of 'executive' status in france (whatever tha means). If there are questions please feel free to ask as I am sure to have left out many details. Robert Gross {devax, seismo, philabs}!mcvax!ircam!robert or in states robert@berkeley ucbvax!robert
