The area just north or just west of Rice University are the only sane places to live in Houston. They are also less than .5 miles from the Texas Medical Center. If north of the university, be sure to stay south of the Montrose area. e.g. at least 3 blocks south of hiway 59. This area has 3 museums, some nice cafes, and even trees, which are a novelty in the concrete jungle you are headed for. Good Luck, Joseph Albert

Well, actually, the entire West University Place area, also South Side Place, the chunk of Bellaire east of Loop 610 West, and the west end of Montrose where you sort of slop over into south River Oaks.... Or basically the area bounded by Kirby(E), Bellaire Blvd.(S), Westheimer(N), and 610 West(W). The prices in this area are VERY variable. -- John B.
