[net.jobs] TechNICA a correction

berman@ihlpg.UUCP (Andy Berman) (06/17/85)

The new address of Technica, the technical assistance to Nicaragua project

        TechNICA
           1227 4th Street
           Santa Monica, CA 90401

           1-213-394-1183

Anyone with enough computer background to access the net probably
can be of use. Projects range from teaching classes in programming languages,
databases, Lotus1-2-3, basic use of microcomputers, installing software,
seminars on repairs, etc. Folks with specialized skills in Mechanics,
Machining, Boiler repair, etc are also needed.

It is a fine way to show the Nicaraguans a more humane face of
America, and to contribute to the re-building rather than the destruction
of Nicaragua. It's legal, fun, and extremely useful and appreciated.
It is also a wonderful way to tell Reagan what you think of his shameful
aggression against the Nicaraguan people.

                        Micros not Mines!
                        On to Managua!

Two things about TechNica:

1. I'd be interested in reading accounts from people who've gone
to Nicaragua under TechNica of, more or less, what their
   projects involved.

2. Any ideas about the sort of minimal competence in Spanish
required to make the going productive?

Sounds like a very fast technology transfer scheme with a pipeline
directly into the Kremlin.

Wouldn't this be faster:

Perhaps, if Nicaragua's industries were running on Crays. But
what they're really limping along on is old TRS-80s and CBMs.
They do need help, and they are getting *A LOT* of help from
western Europe. In fact, the rest of the world looks upon our
aid to the contras with something between disbelief and outrage.
Alas, the Senile One would have us believe that anyone who trades
with the USSR is a Marxist-Leninist. If so, then he's one too!

Isn't net.politics (which we don't get here in Europe, thank goodness) the
place for this cold-warrior?
