Job Description for a Knowledge Engineer:
A knowledge engineer must satisfy the following
requirements:
1. A good theoretical understanding of expert system tech-
nology.
2. Practical experience in building expert systems.
3. Knowledge of various business and engineering pro-
cedures that are suitable for expert system applica-
tions.
4. Knowledge of Prolog, common knowledge representation
schemes, explanation subsystems, and new generation
tools for automating knowledge acquisition.
5. Very good communication skills, master interview tech-
niques. Able to help the application expert in formu-
lating his problem-solving strategies and identifying
the underlying rules.
The knowledge engineer will be responsible for:
1. Identification of application areas for expert system
application.
2. Design of expert systems for various business and
engineering procedures.
3. Acquisition of the domain knowledge of the application
expert.
4. Encoding the acquired domain knowledge using natural
language interfaces and Prolog. Define the global con-
trol strategies for using the encoded knowledge.
5. Verifying the domain knowledge for consistency. Define
sample problems, test their solution using the expert
system.
6. Refinement of the knowledge base by presenting sample
problem solutions to the application expert.
General requirements:
Graduate degree in Computer Science or related area.
Experience with expert systems. Good communication and
organization skills.
