just out of interest:

1. I just noticed a fragment of 4.2BSD kernel/comms source on this
list. I hope Berkeley know it goes out to the UK Academic
community.

2. The Whois service from NIC contains info about some UK users. If
the system is used (and rfinger similarly) in the UK it is in
contravention of the Data Protection Act unless the data with reasons for
holding it are registered with the "Data Protection Officer" (a
sort of Ombudsman). [THIS ONLY ENFORCABLE IF THE DATA IS HELD
IN THE UK, BECAUSE THE ACT DOES NOT COMPREHEND OF
NETWORKS].
