I recently sent the message below to TCP-IP-RELAY@SRI-NIC.ARPA. Apparently it never reached the list because I never saw it on the list. We are quite interested in knowing if anyone else has had a similar problem so I am anxious to get this message out on the mail list. Was the address incorrect? Perhaps, I was caught by some momentary glitch in our mailer. Whatever the reason, I would greatly appreciate knowing if this message was addressed wrong and what the correct address for the TCP-IP mail list is; in addition to getting this message on the mail list. Thank you. Steve Fritts FRITTS@AFOTEC.ARPA -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have recently experienced a problem in bringing up a new DDN host and I would like to find out if others have had a similar experience. We installed an ACC 6250 board on a DEC VAX 11/785 running VMS. The board came with an RS-232 port on it for connection to a modem. The PSN we were connecting to was about 4 miles away. We used a 9.6KB circuit to get to the PSN and connected to an RS-232 port on the BBN C/30. The problem occurred when we tried to come up on the network. The Network Operations Center was able to check all the way through the 9.6KB circuit and loop back from the modem sitting next to our VAX; they said everything looked okay. We could bring up the ACC 6250 board in loopback mode and it would recognize itself; but no matter what we did, it was not able to come up on the network. The problem was finally resolved when we exchanged the ACC 6250 board with the RS-232 port for the same ACC 6250 board with an RS-422 port. We installed the board, put in an RS-422 to RS-232 converter box, then hooked the RS-232 cable to the modem and it worked perfectly! QUESTION: Has anyone else had a similar experience with ACC's 6250 board for standard X.25 DDN host connection when it is configured with an RS-232 port for connection to a PSN using modems? We would very much like to know if ours was a singular experience. You can reply to my mail box or put it on this mail list. Thank you. STEVE FRITTS FRITTS@AFOTEC.ARPA ec.v
