[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] need info about DECnet -- documentation and/or software

stefan@wheaton.UUCP (Stefan Brandle) (05/01/87)

Our campus is getting DECnet'd, which is no doubt a good thing. The terminals
will all eventually be going onto terminal servers -- also probably good, but
it raises the question of what to do for computers not on DECnet.
Specifically, we want to run BSD 4.3 on a uVAX. It has tcp/ip available, and a
companion uVAX will be running Ultrix 2.0 w. DECnet.

Now for the questions:

1) Anyone know of software that would allow the the terminal servers to
contact the uVAX under 4.3? And other DEC machines not under DECnet?

2) Is technical documentation on DECnet available, or is that kept hush-hush?

3) Any suggestions on how we could write our own software to do this?

File transfer (etc.) would be nice, but it is the terminal server stuff that is
the big sticking point.

Thanks for any answers. I'll summarize if there's interest.
