[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] An old ticker fades away

Mills@UDEL.EDU (05/04/87)

Folks,

It has become necessary to discontinue TCP/TIME service in the various
fuzzballs scattered over the known universe. The UDP-based services
UDP/NTP (see RFC-958) and UDP/TIME will continue ticking indefinately.
As mentioned several times to this list over the last few years, TCP/TIME
happens to be rather resource-intensive in the fuzzball implementation
as compared with other services usually considered more vital. The UDP-based
services are much more accurate and less intrusive.
