I have had several similar questions to the ones answered by
Harry below. I did not ask Harry if I could send his note to a
wider audience, so don't take anything Harry says as an indorsement
of anything. Just information!!!

Debbie,
Diamond currently runs only on SUN workstations. As part of the
EXPRES project we are porting Diamond to PC/RT's, DEC MicroVax GPX
and Apollo DN 3000's. This will run under the X window system.
BBN is doing the MicroVax port and U of M is doing the PC/RT and
Apollo DN3000 port. All of the ports are dependent on the appearance
of X.11 which is due mid-Summer.
So, my advice is, get a SUN for the short term. Diamond will run on an RT
in the long-term.
Regards,
	Harry

Date: Mon, 22 Jun 87 17:08:32 EDT From: ramsay MITRE is seeking a product to support remote access by 1 to 16 terminals to an Ethernet LAN and through the LAN to a VAX host running VAX/VMS. The protocols to be supported include TELNET/FTP, TCP, and IP, with terminal rates of 1200 to 9600 bps. Need basic technical data and POC for follow-up. Understand that Communications Machinery Corporation (CMC) has a suitable device, the CMC serial bridge terminal server; this option is being investigated presently. Are there are users of this device out there who can advise of its reliability, performance, and general goodness? MITRE POC Andrew K. Ramsay, comm tel (703) 556-3082, ramsay@mitre.arpa
