[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] talking to sri-nic.arpa

woody@MACOM3.ARPA (robert a woodburn) (07/09/87)

Why can't I get through to sri-nic to get a host table update?
Did I miss something in the last month? I can send and receive
mail just fine, but I cannot use ftp or even ping. Could it be
our gateway?

Hello? Toto I don't think we're in Vienna, VA anymore....

I can't tell you why you couldn't get thru to the NIC for a host
table update. I can tell you that on July 9th, 60 people did get
thru and retrieve a host table, despite some network related problems
we had. If you can supply specific details of your problem
to ACTION@SRI-NIC.ARPA we will investigate.

Woody,

The Wicked Witch of the East wasn't zapped by Dorothy's house after all.
She managed to axe some useful nets from the linkabit-gw tables, including
192.5.39 (us). The tables, after all, are too small. As for SRI-NIC, try
to connect to its ARPANET address 10.0.0.51 directly, rather than its
hosts.txt address, which is on MILNET.
