The Computer Systems Lab is a computing support group, oriented toward
advanced research and instructional support. Our environment currently
includes 3 VAX-11/780s, a VAX-11/750, and more than 20 UNIX workstations
of various types. All of these systems share a common ethernet, and
will hopefully be connected to the ARPAnet in the next few months.
Some of the research areas we support are image processing, computer music,
and VLSI CAD/CAM.
UCSB's Computer Systems Laboratory needs a new warm body. The personnel
department describes the position this way:
COMPUTING RESOURCE MANAGER III

Salary: $3733.00 to $4515.00 per month (depending on experience)
Minimum Requirements: Education and experience equivalent to a masters
degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
Demonstrated experience in the management/administration of computing resources,
and significant technical experience in computer hardware, software, and
communication systems. Working knowledge of computer networking,
computer communication systems, operating systems (especially UNIX),
distributed computing, CAD/CAM and digital hardware.
Duties: Manages the operation of the CSL computer resources, the College of
Engineering CAD/CAM Laboratory, and Computer Science Instructional Laboratory.
Responsible for the training, supervision, and management of the technical
staff working within the laboratory. Additional responsibilities will arise
from the IBM PC/AT laboratories, the completion of Engineering II, the new
Center for Robotics Systems in Microelectronics, and the campus's need for
remote access to supercomputers.
