PROGRAMMER/ANALYST, Professional Research Assistant.
The Department of Computer Science has an opening for a
programmer/analyst to support a large distributed computing
project. This position is the first of three related posi-
tions to be filled during the next year to assist faculty in
research in artificial intelligence, numerical computation,
and software engineering.
- The artificial intelligence position requires knowledge
of AI and LISP programming; some knowledge of frame-
works for knowledge representation, an interest in
human-computer communication, and familiarity with high
performance personal workstations would be helpful.
- The numerical computation position requires knowledge
of numerical analysis and software; familiarity with
the C programming language, UNIX operating system, and
numerical optimization would be helpful.
- The software engineering position requires knowledge of
software engineering and operating systems, C, and
Berkeley UNIX including its networking facilities; some

will include computer programming on computers running the
Berkeley UNIX operating system, use of UNIX including its
interprocess communication facilities, aid in the design of
computer algorithms, and investigations into related
research projects. A masters degree in computer science or
electrical engineering is preferred; applicants with
appropriate experience who have a masters degree in another
field, or a bachelors degree in computer science or electri-
cal engineering, may be considered. Salary to be commen-
surate with experience. Send resume, and names of two
