NATIONAL OPTICAL ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORIES SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER The National Optical Astronomy Observatories (NOAO) is seeking a senior level Mechanical Engineer to work at the NOAO Headquarters Facility in Tucson, Arizona. The job is to perform mechanical engineering design of modifications to existing astronomical facilities which are located at Cerro Tololo, Kitt Peak, and Sacramento Peak. The work will include thermal and structural analysis and design of new equipment as well as occasional troubleshooting of mechani- cal systems. Applicants should have a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus at least seven years experience in the design of mechanical systems. A Bachelor's Degree and more extensive experience will be considered. Previous work experience must include significant thermal and structural analysis as well as mechanism design. Experience in the technical direction of engineers, drafters, and mechanical technicians is desirable. The NOAO, which is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, operates Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona, National Solar Observatory sites at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico, and on Kitt Peak, Cerro-Tololo Inter- american Observatory in Chile and the Advanced Development Program in Tucson.
