Since Pertec is no longer supporting UNIX, I am in need of a position elsewhere in the UNIX community. Posting this is one of the last things I will do while still at Pertec, so please don't try to get in touch with me over the network. Here is part of my resume: Roger L. Long 5744-38 E Creekside Ave Orange, Ca 92669 (714)771-5664 Education: BS Computer Science, California State University, Fullerton AA Mathematics, Fullerton College Experience: Pertec Computer Corporation January 1981 to August 1985 Irvine, California Mr. Long joined Pertec just as they were beginning their development of a new family of computer systems based on the Motorola 68000 microprocessor. His first responsibilities were for modifications and enhancements to the Pertec operating system. He then worked with one of Pertec's customers in designing and implementing a microfilm retrieval system using the first prototypes of the new Pertec hardware. This application was written entirely in the C language. Mr. Long was then asked to participate in the evaluation of the industry in order to predict which proprietary operating system would become the "standard." The conclusion of this evaluation was that UNIX would be that standard operating system, and Pertec began talking to different vendors about porting UNIX to Pertec's hardware. It became obvious that the current generation of Pertec's hardware wasn't adequate to run UNIX, so changes were recommended for a new hardware family. UniSoft, of Berkeley, California, was chosen to provide a port of AT&T's System III. Mr. Long spent two months at UniSoft during the initial porting process, during which time he wrote device drivers and learned UNIX internals by direct experience. Upon his return to Pertec, Mr. Long was responsible for all kernel modifications, including new device drivers, performance enhancements, and tracking of kernel bugs. He has also been involved with porting to System V, adding support for the 68020 microprocessor, and adding various Berkeley utilities. Hughes Aircraft Company June 1976 to January 1981 Ground Systems Group Fullerton, California Mr. Long worked for Hughes in the area of Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). His first responsibility was for the maintenance of existing production programming on the company's Amdahl 470, as well as the design and implementation of a program for editing and updating an automatic router database. Mr. Long then was assigned to the Integrated Card System (ICS) effort, where he participated in the design and implementation of a real-time graphics system used to create schematics and schematic symbols. He was responsible for all Operating Systems support for the Interdata 7/32 computer system used in the project, including the programming of additional hardware I/O drivers for the specialized graphics equipment. Mr. Long had a Secret security clearance. Fullerton College September 1973 to June 1976 Fullerton, California While at Fullerton College, Mr. Long was a Student Assistant for the Business Data Processing Department. Duties involved maintenance of the operating system for the department's IBM 1130, as well as assisting instructors and students in the use of the computer system. Mr. Long was also employed by the Psychology Department as a consultant to aid in the design and implementation of a set of programs for Computer-Aided Instruction. These programs included an automatic test generator and a system to grade tests and update a class database. Programs for statistical analysis were also developed. -- roger long pertec computer corp {ucbvax!unisoft | scgvaxd | trwrb | felix}!pertec!bytebug
