+-------------------------------+ | First the promotional pitch: | +-------------------------------+ Cognition Inc., The Engineering Optimization Company, is designing and developing the world's first integrated Computer Aided Engineering systems for Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. We're looking for talented people who have innovative ideas, new approaches, and a desire to create a product that will very shortly revolutionize how engineering is done. Located in Burlington, MA on Route 128, the Cognition Team was incorporated in February and has already grown to include 35 people. As a company, CI combines professionalism with a friendly informal atmosphere that encourages breadth and sharing of ideas. Because of our size we are quick in attacking problems but still have the resources to be able to accomplish what we set out to do. For those whose ideas can create technological revolutions, Cognition offers the environment, visibility, exceptional growth opportunities, and stock options that clearly demonstrate the value of your contribution ... the importance of your impact. +----------------------------------------------+ | And now the more down to earth description: | +----------------------------------------------+ Cognition has positions available for computer scientists, mechanical (and related fields), and electrical engineers. There are a number of projects being worked on now that will push the forefront of CAE and workstation technologies. Positions are available immediately for people are interested in working hard (but not unreasonably; CI is not, and will not become, a sweatshop. Many people here have families and plan to keep it that way.) to put together an exciting product include (but are not limited to): o Unix(tm) Systems Specialist -- Unix internals wizard experienced in window systems and object-oriented programming. Lots of hacking with Unix to build tools to support distributed systems, bitmap graphics, etc. o Unix Applications Project Leader -- Familiar with development of commercial applications under Unix. o Networking Project Leader -- Experienced with networking under Unix (TCP/IP, Ethernet(tm) or Ringnet). Distributed database and remote procedure calls experience a plus. o Graphics Systems Architect -- Opportunity for a professional experienced in high resolution, high performance graphics hardware and software. o Network Database Designer -- Demonstrated experience in network database design for engineering applications. Distributed database design/AI techniques a plus. o Graphics Database Transfer -- Experience in translation of graphics database to/from IGES format and direct transfer to other system database formats. o Mathematician Programmer -- Experience in numerical methods, graph theory, optimization and symbolic algebra with comprehensive programming experience. o Mechanical and Electrical Engineers -- Experience with using computers to do design and analysis. This is not just a simple CAD position; we are building a major set of systems to make engineers more productive. This is a chance to exercise your theory-practice muscles. o Technical Documentation Specialists -- Several openings for creative individuals to contribute to the documentation of a new concept in engineering design. Requires experience in writing reference manuals, quick start guides and on-line documentation for computer systems. I personally chose to come work for CI because of the opportunities to do exciting technical work, get responsibility quickly, work in an informal but professional (i.e. high powered, but not prima donna) environment, and make money (stock options!). The positions cover a fairly wide spectrum of specialties and we make use of everybody's expertise. If you are interested in Cognition, please send hardcopy resumes with a cover note saying where you heard of CI (i.e. on the net from me, Jim Fulton) to: Philip Orso, VP Cognition, Inc. 50 Cambridge Street Burlington, MA 01803 OR, send text file resumes to me and I'll print them out and give them to appropriate people. I would recommend that even if you do send me your resume through the net that you also send a printed version to Phil anyway. I'll acknowledge everything that I receive but it's best to be safe.
