** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** NETWORK ENGINEER The Computer Services Group of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University has an an opening for a Network Engineer to implement and support a high speed digital network which will interconnect several computing centers on campus to the John Von Neumann Computing Center being established by a consortium of Universities at Princeton. It is necessary to connect a variety of computers from different manufacturers running a variety of operating systems to a communications node which will be the gateway off campus. This position offers considerable opportunity for initiative, and the possibility when the network is operational of becoming involved with state of the art graphics facilities. The position requires: a thorough understanding of protocols, and preferably direct experience with TCP/IP; knowledge of and experience with computer hardware for connection to baseband and fiberoptic ethernets; systems experiece with the UNIX operating system; the ability to interact pleasantly and competently with members of the various research groups and managers of computer systems requiring access; organisational ability to support and document a complex system. A degree in computer science with at least one years direct experience in network implementation is required. Knowledge of VMS would be an asset.
