Unix Application Specialists Wanted
Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, a division of Hewlett-Packard Company lo-
cated in Palo Alto, CA, is looking for Unix application specialists to
participate in the design and implementation of Unix-based application
software for analytical (chemical) instrumentation. These positions will
address issues of database management, computer networking, graphics, and
user interface.
Qualifications:
An MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required as
well as detailed knowledge of and experience with Unix and Unix
internals including the Shell, file structure, and system calls.
Experience in database management, graphics, user interfaces, or
analytical chemistry is desirable.

Unix Senior System Programmer/Analyst or System Programmer/Analyst
The FAS Computer Services Group at Harvard University has a
position for a programmer/analyst as a senior systems analyst or
assistant systems programmer for the implementation and
maintenance of a growing number of Unix systems running on
Digital Equipment Corporation PDP11 and VAX Computers.
Duties would include providing coverage of the various Unix
operating systems, the writing, troubleshooting, and maintaining
of systems and applications software, participation in the
implementation of a rapidly expanding network, and providing
support for faculty and administrative users. The degree of
responsibility and/or supervision would depend on the level of
experience of the successful applicant.
Minimal requirements for the position are: a bachelors
degree with emphasis on mathematics or computer science; a good
working knowledge of the C programming language and the Unix
operating system; some experience with various high level
languages; a reliable and methodical approach to system
responsibilities; and a pleasant and mature manner in dealing
with faculty and students. Familiarity with VMS would be an
advantage. This person would work directly with other systems
staff and report to the Manager of Computer Services. Hours
would be 9 AM to 5 PM nominally with occasional requirements at
other times.
