I have been looking through the MIL-STD's for TCP and IP (1770 and 1771 I think), and nowhere is there an indication of how large IP datagrams you can expect coming over an 802.3 Ethernet. Does anybody know if there is a limit (other than the 1500 byte limit on ethernet packets)? The document says something about that you MUST be able to handle 576 byte datagrams without fragmenting them, but that's all it says... Similarly, is there a limit on TCP 'datagrams' (I can't remember the correct name), or must a TCP/IP implementation be able to handle virtually any size?
