AMS is an organization with two geographically separate offices, one in Providence, RI and one in Ann Arbor, MI. We are in the process of upgrading the modems on the leased line between the two offices from 9.6 Kbaud to 19.2 Kbaud. We are also considering installing at both sites a product from Vitalink called Translan III. This would eliminate a multiplexor setup on both ends. At the Ann Arbor end, the Translan would be connected to an Ethernet on which Interlan NTS100 XNS terminal servers are primary hardware for connecting terminals. At the Providence end, the Translan would be connected to an Ethernet on which NTS100s are wired to DECserver 100 and 200 LAT terminal servers. This would permit Ann Arbor users to connect to systems in the Providence office which support only LAT. With this configuration, only XNS terminal server traffic and occasional TCP/IP file transfer traffic would be transferred over the leased line between Providence and Ann Arbor (i.e., no LAT traffic would need to be transferred). I would like to hear from anyone who is using a Translan III in a similar configuration. I would especially like to hear from people who are using the product to pass terminal server traffic between Ethernets using a leased line. Thanks for any information.
