[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] guaranteed datagram protocols

timg@devvax.JPL.NASA.GOV (Tim Graham) (11/10/87)

I have a query concerning the existence of tested and reliable guaranteed
datagram protocols. By this I mean protocols which would sit "above"
the UDP protocol in the TCP/UDP/IP suite, but which would guarantee ordered
and reliable delivery of messages. I suppose that such a protocol would
have to do appropriate sequencing and retransmitting to accomplish this.

The problem which motivates this request is a desire to maintain
"many-to-one" connections while guaranteeing that any segments sent will
be received at the remote end, and that they will be received in the
order in which they were sent.

Any information concerning products which even remotely resemble this
description would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any information you may have.
