[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] 4.3BSD TCP problem

tucker%vger@GSWD-VMS.GOULD.COM.UUCP (11/19/87)

We are having trouble using Berkeley 4.3 TCP over very slow network
connections (9600 baud). Sometimes connections just get stuck. Both
hosts are running the same Berkeley software. This happens even if
the hosts are connected directly to each other by the slow network
link.

Below is a trace of the packets being sent back and forth. This continues
forever. The connection is in the following state:

local host connection says it is in: CLOSE_WAIT
remote host says the connection is in: FIN_WAIT_2

here are the packets that bounce back and forth:

sent: 45 0 0 29 6 fa 0 0 1e 6 79 4c a 1e 4 3b a 1e 4 13 2 2 3 f4 4 69 e2 2 4 4b 9c 50 50 10 10 0 f6 4c 0 0 0 ... (41 bytes)

recv: 45 0 0 28 6 fe 0 0 1e 6 79 49 a 1e 4 13 a 1e 4 3b 3 f4 2 2 4 4b 9c 51 4 69 e2 3 50 10 10 0 f6 4b 0 0 ... (40 bytes)

it just keeps going on forever (at least an hour)

Does anyone have any idea what is happening? I would appreciate any
comments! Thanks.
