[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] in.routed dying

doug@ICASE.ARPA (Doug Peterson) (09/29/87)

I'm experiencing a phenomenon with my routed daemon. It dies at seemingly
random intervals, for no apparent reason.

My configuration is as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------
           | |
           | 128.102.7.51 (outside world) ----
         ------- | |P4200 gw
         | | Sun 3/180 file server (runs in.routed) ----
         -------- |
             |192.12.48.1 -------------------
---------------------------- (private net) Another net
   | | | | |192.48.12.n
  --- --- --- --- ---
  | | | | | | | | | |
  --- --- --- --- ---
      14 3/50 diskless clients

I'm running Sun OS 3.4 currently, but I've had the same problem under 3.3.
The file server has 8mb ram, 2 380mb Eagle disks, an FPA card, 16 serial
lines for printers, terminals, etc. Admittedly, the system is loaded,
but other things function properly, with response we can live with. However,
routed just dies without a clue.

Sun says they haven't heard of this problem with other customers. Does
anyone have any ideas about what to look at, or has anyone experienced
a similar problem?

Thanks.

Doug,

I was going through my old messages and came across this one
from you. Are you still having problems with routed dying in your Sun
machines?
