EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Communications Engineer Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd. Nov. 1978 - Sep. 1982 Pulau Bukom Singapore As a Communications Engineer in an oil refinery, I was fully responsible for all the radio and telephone communication needs within the refinery operations. My duties included :- 1. maintenance of a 2 GHz microwave link; 2. maintenance of 15 VHF radio networks with base-stations, walkie-talkies and radio pagers; 3. maintenance of a PABX; 4. design and organization of construction and installation of telecommunication projects; 5. estimation and analysis of project costs; 6. supervision of telecommunication installation. In the last 2 years of my service, I was specially assigned to work on a project for the tendering, evaluation and recommendation for the purchase and installation of a new electronic PABX and a new 15 GHz digital microwave link to upgrade the communication efficiency in the Company. Beside my main duties, I had to stand in occasionally for electrical engineer who was on vacation. I carried out high tension electrical work including switching, earthing and fault finding when I covered for this duty. Electrical Engineer Housing & Development Board Oct. 1976 - Nov. 1978 National Development Building Maxwell Road Singapore Housing & Development Board is a Statutory Board whose main function is to build self-contained newtowns with low-cost high rise residential flats, community centres, sport complexes and shopping complexes. As an Electrical Engineer, I worked on new electrical projects and maintained existing electrical installations in the areas assigned to me. My duties were to : 1. design electrical power distribution and lighting system; 2. organize and supervise construction and installation; 3. test and commission electrical installations; 4. maintain the existing installations. My job also involved liaisoning with Architects, Civil and Structural Engineers for the co-ordination of progress of all new projects. I also had to liaise with the local Electricity Board for the supply and commissioning of the electrical installations. EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO OCT. 1976 As the duty to the National Service, I served in the Singapore Armed Forces from Apr. 1974 to Oct. 1976. I was trained as an infantry officer, and held appointment as platoon commander and company 2 i/c. My last rank was Lieutenant.
