Apparently last week's attempt to patch around one of the problems in PSN 7.0, the problem being hanging X.25 virtual circuits originating on 1822 hosts, has been removed. At 1900 hours yesterday the problems caused by the patch still plagued our gateway. But, since approximately 0200 hours today, we have been able to maintain normal reachability with our EGP peers. I assume the change occured between those hours. My question is, did this occur on purpose or can I expect imminent redisconnection? As troublesome as the orignal problem in 7.0 is, it doesn't compare to the troubles caused by "The Patch". Mike ps: I've certainly learned my lesson, I'll never mention the problem with 7.0 again, please just don't disconnect me again.

Mike, Yes, last week's patch was removed last night. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem Andy Malis thought it would solve. He is about to test (in our own network, since we now have a Sun with an X.25 interface hooked up to it) a new patch that should work. If it does work, it should be out in the ARPANET in the near future. Actually, we're suprised to learn from your message that the patch that went in last week made things that much WORSE for you. I think you and we mis-communicated. You did mention in a message to Andy, "Occasionally, maybe once or twice a day, the X25 manager refuses to make outgoing or accept incoming calls ... This has only occured since the midnight patch of a few days ago." You mentioned that you were referring this problem to Sun, so we took it to be a minor point for us; we didn't take it as a request or a reason to pull the patch. In hindsight, I guess we should have. Instead, we continued to view the patch as "harmless" although not particularly successful in correcting the problem it was supposed to correct. Please accept our apologies in this regard. Ken

Ken, We certainly must have miscommunicated. The patch changed what was a bad situation into a horrible one. Our gateway would cease to gateway several times a day and our EGP software couldn't cope. We called Sun, BBN, DCA, DARPA, and anyone else we could think of in an attempt to keep our box on the air. Last I heard, we still have service requests in with BBN and Sun. Mike
