Does anyone have Remote Job Entry (RJE) procedures (including remote query, queue manipulation, etc.) based on TCP/IP for UNIX-based workstation users to submit jobs to VAX/VMS (or possibly IBM VM/CMS and MVS) systems. Someone at Apollo mentioned the availability of procedures developed at NASA-Ames called NQB (or something like that). Does anyone know about this or have programs that do something similar? osman khan. uucp: ...decwrl!mcvax!philmds!prle!nvpna1!khan post: Philips Netherlands. Building BC-136A. The system is "NQS" (the Network Queueing System) and was based on the earlier MDQS system I wrote but is pretty much a complete rewrite. It was done by a contractor for the NASA Ames Research Center (I believe NAS specifically). Hopefully someone can get you specifics on it. They use it to feed jobs into the Cray-2. BRL has a copy as well. -Doug-

As Doug Kingston mentioned, NQS (The Network Queueing System) was written by Sterling Software (then Informatics), as the System Software Contractor for the Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation (NAS) Project at NASA's Ames Research Center. NQS was delivered to NASA as part of the contract, and Cray adopted it as their standard RJE mechanism for UNICOS (their port of UNIX System V). The author was Brent Kingsbury, who has since joined Cray in Mendota Heights, MN, where he is continuing to work on NQS. I don't have an electronic address for Brent, but Cray should certainly be in the Mendota Heights phone book [ :-) ]. It's a good system; Brent did a hell of a job.
