[net.jobs] Unix

stimac@tymix.UUCP (Michael Stimac) (12/21/83)

We recently ran the following ad in the "San Jose Mercury". TYMSHARE
is located in Cupertino, California, in the heart of the Silicon
Valley. We are looking for some UNIX (r) systems programmers to
assist us in coupling UNIX to our Network, as well as compiler-types
who would enjoy working in a UNIX environment. We are creating a
family of cross-compilers, as well as some unique applications using
YACC to build an interactive front-end. Applications from intermediate,
senior, and project-leader levels are welcome. We are running
Berkeley 4.2 on our VAX 750, and will be developing 68000-based
UNIX 'programmer workbench' systems in the immediate future. TYMSHARE
offers a relocation policy and competitive salaries. We are about
35 miles from San Francisco, there's no snow (ski slopes are within
driving distance, though), and fresh vegetables are reasonably priced
all year round. The ad:

state-of-the-art protocol support (X.25, X.28, SNA). To qualify,
you must have at least three years assembly language experience
with emphasis in communications or real-time systems.

                             Senior
               Communications Systems Programmers

Lead positions for experienced communications programmers in the
areas of planning, research, and development of core areas of
Tymnet networking technology. Most of these positions involve
project leadership and all require a minimum of five years ex-

Bisync).

                       Senior Programmers

We need senior programmers with systems or distributed applica-
tions experience to take responsibility for the design and
development of network application projects. These projects in-

JOB OPPORTUNITY!!!!!

Unix System Manager wanted, position available right away!

Here is a chance for all you Unix hackers who would like to get paid
for playing. Cognition, Inc. is looking for someone to be their system
manager.

We have a mix of vaxen running Ultrix(tm) and pc's and mac's all netted together.
While it would be nice to have someone who knows a lot about Ultrix or
Berkeley Unix(tm), we are willing to train someone who has had a lot
of experience using Unix (the current system managers pro tem have to
concentrate on their real task now).

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to (in fact, we would
encourage someone to hack):

o watching over backups. we have a fairly well automated
system, but it does need someone to hang tapes and
make sure that it is running correctly.

o oversee allocation of hardware to various groups. this
involves keeping track of what equipment we have,
where it is, and who needs it.

o system maintenance. random things like maintenance of
accounts, hacking with scripts, etc. this is where
you will have a lot of leaway.

o playing with neat toys. we have bitmap tubes and an
interesting programming environment for those people
who are interested in expanding their horizons.

o dealing with people. this is a fairly important part of
the job. Cognition is a place where people's feelings
are important (including yours). diplomatic skills are
		a real plus.

Again, we are willing to train someone who has Unix experience but has
not managed systems before. If you like to pick things up quickly, this
could be the place for you.

For reference, Cognition is creating a comprehensive environment for
doing conceptual Computer Aided Engineering. We are a growing company
with a lot of neat projects going on and a real opportunity for someone
to have an impact. If you interested and would like to learn more about
it, please call me:
