[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Xerox's XNS protocols....

BILLW@MATHOM.CISCO.COM (William Westfield) (01/08/88)

Is there on line documentation anywhere for the XNS protocols ?
At the moment, Id especially like to get a sort of overview on
how the whole thing works...

Thanks

They are in hardcopy form (bound gray booklets w/graphics). The protocols you
probably are most interested in are;

Internet Transport Protocols, XSIS 028112
Courier: The Remote Procedure Call Protocol, XSIS 038112
Time Protocol, XSIS 088210
Clearinghouse Protocol, XSIS 078404
Authentication Protocol, XSIS 098210

They can be obtained by sending US mail to;

	Xerox Corporation
	475 Oakmead Parkway
	Sunnyvale, CA  94086
	ATTN:  Pam Cance

As it turns out, there are two XNS introduction documents (in hardcopy form
only);

Xerox Network Systems Architecture:
	Introduction to Xerox Network Systems, XNSG 058504
	General Information Manual, XNSG 068504

The first is a short overview, whereas the second is quite long (~200 pages)
with discussions of many of the different protocols.

They (and other XNS documentation) can be had by sending a message with your US
mail address to Hilary Cornell <HCornell.osbunorth@Xerox.com>. Please allow 10
working days for delivery.
