The National Optical Astronomy Observatories (NOAO) is
seeking a senior level electronic engineer who will function
as the manager for the engineering group located at the
National Solar Observatory (NSO) Sacramento Peak site in
Sunspot, New Mexico.
The job duties are basically electronic circuit design

vidual will be responsible for the management of a group of
approximately twelve engineers, technicians and programmers.
The major projects are related to the implementation of
solid-state detectors in state-of-the-art optical instrumen-

for the maintenance and development of equipment for the
four NSO telescopes located on Sacramento Peak and for the
occasional development of equipment for the NSO facilities
located on Kitt Peak near Tucson, Arizona.
Applicants should have a master's degree in electronic

B.S. plus 10 years experience). Previous work experience
must include significant low-level analog and servo system
circuit design activities. Digital circuit design and
micro-processor software experience is also required.
Desirable experience would include familiarity with one or
more of the following: 68000 Multibus microprocessors,
solid-state detector arrays (CCDs), Perkin-Elmer and VAX
computers, AMD 2900 series bit-slice processors, and assem-

The NOAO offers forefront technology challenges, an
unclassified, pleasant workplace, and a Sunbelt location.
The NOAO is an EEO/AA employer with an excellent compensa-
tion and benefits package, including 24 days annual vacation
