Does anyone know of published performance data on TCP/IP for various hardware? That is, how many packets per second should a given CPU be able to send, exclusive of the subnetwork protocol or the communications medium? I am particularly interested in data for the VAX 11/785, but will take data for any CPU. Please note that I am not interested in simply answering this question, but in finding public, non-proprietary measurements that can be publicly cited. Thank you.

There is an article "User-Process Communication Performance in Networks of Computers" in the January '88 issue of IEEE Trans. on Software Engineering, vol 14, number 1. It contains some of the performance data you seek. mike
