I've followed the PSN 7.0 dialog, but haven't seen my aspect of the problem discussed: Occasionally, near an hour hack, (9:58, for example,) we begin getting syslog msgs: 'No buffer space available' from sendmail, mconnect, etc. accessing particular systems. At the same time we have no problems getting to other systems. The milnet NOC tells us to reboot; but I doubt their veracity. The problem clears up at near another hour hack. Could someone be turning us on and off at the PSN side? Wwe are running vanilla 4.2BSD (We are getting ready to upgrade to 4.3BSD) and 1822. -- Jim Chappell UUCP: ...!umd5!vrdxhq!ms3!jrc ISN Corp. Jim, The host "hios-pent.arpa" is a MILNET host, which is running PSN Release 6.0, not PSN Release 7.0. --Ken Turkewitz

Jim, As Ken Turkewitz already pointed out, your host is on the MILNET, which is using PSN 6.0. If this helps, when my local host ran ULTRIX 1.2 (based upon 4.2 BSD), and its PSN was down following a power failure, it would also type out the "No buffer space available" message. When the PSN came back up, the messages went away. So this may just be the same problem - when you are receiving these messages, your host's PSN is probably down. You should check this with the Milnet MC at (202) 692-5726. Andy
