NOTICE of POSITION VACANCY Position title: User Services Specialist III (Programmer/Analyst II) Starting date: as soon as possible Salary & grade: $1631.77/month at Grade 14, step 1 Hours: full-time, 12 months/year position DESCRIPTION The Computer Center at the University of Montana is seeking a person to assist with the support, maintenance, and modification of all aspects of microcomputing for the university community. The university computing facilities include a DECSYSTEM-2065, two DECSYSTEM 2020s, (running TOPS-20) and a VAX-785 (running UNIX). Within the next year two VAX 8600s will be acquired; these will utilize DEC's VMS operating system. In addition there are many IBM PC, PC/AT, IBM compatibles, DEC Rainbow, Apple II-e, Macintosh, Radio Shack and KAYPRO microcomputers on campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possession of the following required qualifications may be assessed through a variety of techniques such as evaluation of submitted application and previous employment, reference checks with former employers, and personal interviews with finalists. REQUIRED: Three years work experience in computer systems and programing; familiarity with microcomputer application software maintenance and support, user training, documentation production, and general knowledge of computer operating systems; demonstrated ability to communicate technical information, both orally and in writing, to people of varying levels of expertise; bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED: Working knowledge of: MS-DOS and CPM operating systems; microcomputer programming; programming languages including Pascal, FORTRAN, and BASIC; database management systems. Experience in: teaching in a classroom environment; microcomputer hardware including system selection and configuration; DECSYSTEM-20 including applications packages such as SPSSx, ASPEX, and SCRIBE; DEC VAX using VMS or UNIX. DESIRABLE: Technical writing experience; experience with system support of computers, microcomputers, networking and data communications; experience with development of complex programs such as operating or control programs.
