[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] TLI?

dewey@auscso.UUCP (Dewey Coffman) (03/04/88)

Does anyone have any information or pointer to information about
a new product called TLI out of AT&T(?) that is supposed to
replace tcp/ip on UNIX? E-mail is preferable, but post if
	of general interest.

TLI (Transport Level Interface) is NOT a replacement for TCP/IP. It
is an program-level interface to the protocol, and is intended as
an alternative to the BSD socket library. It is implemented for
the AT&T-supported local networks such as TCP/IP, Starlan and Datakit
(insert appropriate trademarkings here) as of System V release 3, with
a common set of routines for open/close/read/write/etc. The WIN/3B
package for TCP/IP on the 3Bx machines provides most of the system calls
for SVr2 machines, as well.

Hope this clarifies things.
