So long, net.jobs, old buddy. It looks like it's time for me to unsubscribe to you. I'll never forget these last four or five years... ... Your first article ... The nroff resume form you gave me ... The discussions on what to wear to and how to act during an interview ... That job posting that turned into my current job You see, it's not that I want to unsubscribe to you, but I have to. It always happens like this: Someone posts an article that elicits some discussion. Even though the topic is relevant to the newsgroup, a small group of whining fascist goons (some call them the "Self-appointed Net Police") decides that the newsgroup should not discuss the issue. I really don't blame them that much, since it seems that every discussion consists of something like 1/3 relevant material and 2/3 "me too! I agree! I need some attention!" articles, but I don't understand why they don't flame at the "me too"'sers instead of trying to stop discussion in general. Anyway, when somebody posts the inevitable "why don't we be real jerks and bother the people doing the discussion by sending them a lot of junk mail", I have to leave. I know. You are described as a newsgroup containing (from the newsgroups file) "Job announcements, requests, etc.", but I suppose that "etc." can't mean "discussions related to jobs and hiring practices". Personally, I was happy to be informed (but sad about the fact) that age was used in salary considerations in Europe, and enjoyed reading some of the discussion. Then again, I know how to use the news software to increase my "information/bullshit ratio", so I don't worry about all of the trash. Well, it's just about time to hit the old 'u' key. Maybe sometime I'll look in on you again. If you see net.bizarre (or "net.smart_remarks", as I call him/her), say hello for me. David Elliott tekecs!dce
