[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] UUCP on top of various protocols

dave@arnold.UUCP (Dave Arnold) (06/11/88)

Hello netlanders.

Questions:

Our next project is going to involve TCP/IP, X.25, and maybe
some ISO. I have a few questions that I haven't been able to find
an answer to:

Regarding UUCP:

Q.	Should I consider using the "t" protocol when TCP/IP is used?

Q.	What does "t" do different from "f" or "e"?

Q.	Is "t" public?

Q.	Do sites on the Arpanet use UUCP? If so, how is the connection
made? Is there some getty running on some virtual device?
I trying to get a clear understanding of how TCP/IP and X.25
	is typically used with UUCP.

Regarding TCP/IP application programs:

Q.	We may need some of the TCP/IP networking utilities on
	VMS (ftp,telnet,rlogin,rcp,remsh).
	Is ftp and telnet PD?

Q.	How can I obtain the sources to any of the above?

Q.	Do rlogin and rcp implement some standard protocol on some
	well known socket?

Q.	What would we be getting with the DDN protocol manual that
would be missing from the RFC's?

Q.	Would all my above questions be answered if I had the DDN
	protocol handbook?

That's all. And thanks in advance!
