[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] RFC 1054 and multi-cast protocols

KAPLAN@IBM.COM (Marc Kaplan) (07/05/88)

In rfc1054, S. Deering mentions "algorithms and protocols used within and
between multicast routers ... will be specified in separate documents"

Where/how can I get these "documents"? And where/how can I contact
S. Deering.

Marc:

Unless Steve has something up his sleeve, with the exception of his
paper to be given at the upcoming SIGCOMM, there are, as yet, no
documents specifying how multicast routing is done between routers.

As we speak, there is very active work being done by BBN and
Stanford to test out two differents protocols and sets of algorithms
for routing between multicast agents. The plan is to write up the
results of these experiments in August.
