[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Unix help...

HEILNER_K@VAXC.STEVENS-TECH.EDU (07/07/88)

I am in the process of venturing into the world of Unix. In trying to set
up an AT&T 3B, I have noticed that /etc/route and /etc/routed do not exist.
Do these files have to exist in order to let the 3B know about the default
gateway. We can Telnet to all nodes on the Ethernet but have a problem with
connecting to any node on other networks. I have included the default gateway
in the /etc/hosts and /etc/networks files without results. Any suggestions??
The 3B is running Unix V5. Also, I know there are lots of Unix books out there,
can anyone recommend a good one??

We are having problems receiving mail from the tcp-ip list. Please respond
to my address indicated below...thanks
