[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Interfacing SUN to AUTODIN.

wrl@FORD-COS2.ARPA (Bill Lewandowski) (09/15/88)

Has anyone out there ever interfaced a SUN 3 or 4 to the
Governments "AUTODIN" system ???

I am working on such a project and was wondering if anyone had
already written code in "C" or "ADA" or any other type of code
that interfaced with SUN OS for controlling of Send/Recv of
message traffic To/Fm the AUTODIN system.

Bill,
The Software Development Center Huachuca is working on such a project
using Unisys 5000/80. This requires some special hardware such as
a TLC 100 but other than that it is just protocol and format conversion.
Doug Nielsen is a real good P.O.C. dnielsen@huachuca-em.arpa.

Hope this helps.

Bill:

I doubt that you can get approval from either DIA or DCA to directly connect
a Sun Workstation to AUTODIN without going through a full accreditation after
"hacking" the Sun operating system to remove all networking code.

You can probably get approval to access AUTODIN through an accredited CSP
(Communication Support Processor) system. SIMPACT has developed a VME bus
interface and drivers to support the required DDCMP 4.0 or DDCMP/IDHSC II
data link protocol. ADS which recently has moved from Palo Alto to Mountain
View has developed the required Full Duplex Message Protocol (FDMP) which
provides the transport layer connection to CSP. More information can be
obtained from Mike Matsumoto at ADS (Advanced Decision Systems).

The hardware and software for the Sun was tested at our facility here in
Westlake Village interfacing to a CSP system through a BR1731 Communication
Control Unit (CCU). The testing was successful; however, it has not been
installed at a site nor is it currently approved or accredited by either
DIA or DCA.
