[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Question on UDP under BSD UNIX.

scottr@CSC-LONS.ARPA (Scott W. Rogers) (10/18/88)

Here's an interesting question for you UNIX TCP/IP Folks,

Refering to the recvfrom() functions in the 4.2/4.3 socket
    library.

When an application receives a UDP packet, the SENDERS address is
located in the sock_add_in structure passed in the recvfrom()
call. Is there any way for an application to get the DESTINATION
address. I.E. I would like to know if this UDP packet was directed
to me, or the broadcast address.

If the answer is no, is there any way of filtering out one or the
other (i.e. receive only broadcasts or don't receive broadcasts).

You can respond to tcp-ip or directly to me "scottr@csc-lons.arpa". I
will post a summary.
