Yes, I did really mean "can't possibly"!  I use so many different
systems which do so much different terminal processing including
sometimes changing the effect of characters between when I type-ahead
and when they are actually acted upon, that I am convinced that a
client alone doesn't stand a chance of coming close to getting this
right.  Even the server will have a hard time due to the architecture
of most operating systems making it difficult for the TELNET server to
get this information from the actual user program (ref the other
discussion on GA) where the knowledge may actually reside.
