[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Telnet binary mode question

How does a Telnet connection work in binary mode? Do we leave everything
as is without adding or deleting a LF when we see a CR?

Suppose if we are in binary mode, are we still supposed to handle commands like ls, date, etc.?
