[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Van Jacobson TCP mods

roy@phri.UUCP (Roy Smith) (11/22/88)

I'm just getting around to installing the Van Jacobson TCP mods in
our MtXinu 4.3BSD/NFS Vax. I noticed that in_cksum.c is in netinet/
instead of machine/. Am I correct in assuming that I should NOT install
the portable version, but rather stay with the vax-optimized one I already
have?

I'm also assuming that these mods should just drop in to both my
MtXinu Vax and my Suns runing SunOS-3.5.2. Yes? Or does 3.5.2 already
have Van Jacobson in it, in which can I need not bother? I suspect the
latter might be the case since we already get far better ftp performance
over a serial link from our Suns than from our Vax (i.e. 80% of the 64 kbps
theoretical bandwidth available instead of 10-15%).
