                    FACULTY POSITION 
           COMPUTER SCIENCE/OPERATIONS RESEARCH
             NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY
                     FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA
       
THE COMMUNITY:  Fargo is the most desirable urban community in
the U.S. according to a recent "urban stress test" conducted by
Zero Population Growth.  Fargo is located in eastern North
Dakota across the Red River from Moorhead, Minnesota.  The local
area has a population of 130,000 with two universities, a
private college, a community theater, a civic opera, a symphony
orchestra and many other cultural activities.  The Minnesota
lakes are less than a one hour drive away.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Computer Science Department has 12 faculty
members.  Funding from government and private agencies in 1985
will total over one million dollars.  The department is part of
the Mathematical Sciences Division with 35 faculty offering
courses in computer science, mathematics, operations research,
and statistics.  B.S. and M.S. degrees in all four areas are
offered, and a Ph.D. program is planned to begin in Fall 1986.
Department research computer facilities include several UNIX
systems (VAX 780, PDP 11s, 3B2s, HP 9040, UNIX PC), a wide
variety of micros, and graphics terminals and printers.  The
NDSU Computer Center has an IBM 3081 running VM/CMS.

EFFECTIVE DATE: September 1986; earlier or later dates
possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach two courses per quarter in computer
science at undergraduate and graduate level.  Be actively
involved in research in computer science and/or operations
research.  Advise graduate and undergraduate students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely
related area.  Commitment to quality teaching and evidence of
ability to teach effectively.  Promise or evidence of research
ability.

SALARY RANK: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
