We are shopping around for an ethernet-based IP gateways. Convince me if I'm wrong-headed, but we are interested in dedicated gateway machines, not slipping another ethernet interface into some general purpose server (that's what I have now). I'm interested in hearing accolades and horror stories from YOU on the net. The devices I'm most interested in currently are from Network Systems and Cisco. Let me know about these and others too. I'd like to know about: price $$ overall performance ease of installation/use/administration/troubleshooting reliability caracteristics (how many ethernets, how much memory, packets/sec...) special features: i.e., does it act as a gateway/bridge for other protocol families: DECNET, ETHERTALK, XNS, ??? connections to other physical media: fiber optic, etc. anything I've missed I'll summarize for the net if it seems worth it. --Andy Shore shore@adobe.com {decwrl, sun}!adobe!shore
