Sorry if this has appeared twice at your site - we had off-site communications problems and I am not sure how far this posting got! ____ The Position GE/Calma is looking for an individual to assist in the development of new user interface software for Calma's mechanical CAE/CAD/CAM products. This position involves design and implementation of software to support a "user interface toolkit". The toolkit will be used by various groups to implement powerful, easy-to-use interfaces for their products. The toolkit will support windowing, 2-d and 3-d model views, menus, forms, help, command syntax processing, command history, icons, and various interactive devices. In addition, the qualified individual will also work on developing an actual user interface for basic geometric modeling using the toolkit software. This position will also involve overseeing the work of several junior people involved in similar activities. The user interface software will be developed for workstation hardware from leading vendors and will include high-resolution color displays with proprietary display list graphics hardware. This position requires an undergraduate technical degree, preferably computer science, applied math, or mechanical engineering. A masters degree in computer science is highly desirable. The position also requires design and implementation experience in any or all of these areas: user interface management systems, window-based operating environments (e.g. Topview, Suntools, etc.), GKS logical input devices, command syntax specification and processing. In addition, experience using C, UNIX, and VMS is very desirable. Fortran and experience in CAD is also a plus. A commitment to the use of formal software engineering methods is absolutely necessary. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required. The Company GE/Calma is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Electric. Our products include software for mechanical design, drafting, numerically controlled machining, robotics, mapping, architecture and construction, solids modeling, etc. The Location This position is located in San Diego, "America's Finest City". The offices are located about two miles from the Pacific ocean between the communities of La Jolla and Del Mar.
