The Position

GE/Calma is looking for an individual to assist in the
development of new user interface software for Calma's mechanical
CAE/CAD/CAM products. This position involves design and
implementation of software to support a "user interface toolkit".
The toolkit will be used by various groups to implement powerful,
easy-to-use interfaces for their products. The toolkit will
support windowing, 2-d and 3-d model views, menus, forms, help,
command syntax processing, command history, icons, and various
interactive devices. In addition, the qualified individual will
also work on developing an actual user interface for basic geometric
modeling using the toolkit software. This position will also
involve overseeing the work of several junior people involved in
similar activities.

The user interface software will be developed for workstation
hardware from leading vendors and will include high-resolution color
displays with proprietary display list graphics hardware.

This position requires an undergraduate technical degree,
preferably computer science, applied math, or mechanical
engineering. A masters degree in computer science is highly
desirable. The position also requires design and implementation
experience in any or all of these areas: user interface
management systems, window-based operating environments (e.g.
Topview, Suntools, etc.), GKS logical input devices, command
syntax specification and processing.

In addition, experience using C, UNIX, and VMS is very
desirable. Fortran and experience in CAD is also a plus. A
commitment to the use of formal software engineering methods is
absolutely necessary. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident
status is required.

GE/Calma is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Electric.
