       SOFTWARE ENGINEER
  
  
       SPECIFICATIONS
  
       1.   Applications and utility software development,  acquisition,
            and maintenance.
  
       2.   UNIX* operating system support.
  
       3.   Consultation with software  and  hardware  engineering  user
            community.
  
       4.   Systems administration of UNIX facility.
  
       It should be noted that, although initial tasks will be  entirely
       UNIX  oriented,  future  work  will involve support of Mentor and
       McAuto CAD workstations and facilities and  their  networking  to
       the UNIX facility.
  
  
       REQUIREMENTS
  
       1.   Strong Berkeley UNIX Understanding
            The position requires the applicant to have a strong  under-
            standing  of  4.2BSD  UNIX  and  its related sub-systems and
            utilities.  Assignments will involve work with these systems
            with minimal supervision.
  
       2.   Leadership Qualities
            Position requires applicant to provide leadership  in  usage
            and application of the system.
  
       3.   Communication Skills
            The ability to communicate his/her thoughts,  both  verbally
            and  in  text,  is  essential.   In addition, he/she must be
            capable of expressing  and  explaining  issues  with  highly
            technical   computer  programmers  and  those  who  are  not
            directly related to computer matters.
  
  
       EDUCATION
  
       BSCS or equivalent.  Requires two (2)  years  working  experience
       with the UNIX operating system and "C" language.
  
  
       WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  
       The facility to be supported includes two DEC 11/780  CPU's  run-
       ning  4.2BSD  UNIX  and one DEC PDP-11/70 running Version 7 UNIX.
       These machines support the software development for  microproces-
       sors  embedded  in  Ampex's  broadcast  video  graphic  and  tape
       recorder products.  A three node Mentor ring has  been  installed
       which  is  being used for CAE efforts and it's planned to have it
       networked via TCP/IP Ethernet to the two VAX's in 1986.  We  also
       support a DEC 11/750 running 4.2BSD in research oriented facility
       which is being used for VLSI design, magnetic field research, and
       typesetting  with  the  CAT phototypesetter and Versatec printer-
