Chair in Computer Science, University of York, England

Applications are invited for a new Chair  in  the  Department  of
Computer  Science  which  has  been  established to reinforce the
already strong research activities of the Department.  The person
appointed  must  have  a proven research record in some branch of
Computer Science or Engineering.  It is expected that one or more
new  Lectureships  will  be  available  subsequently  in the same
research area as the new Professor and  that  a  significant  sum
will be available to purchase equipment to support this research.

The appointment, which is available from 1 October 1986, will  be
made  on  the  Professorial scale with the usual pension arrange-
ments.  For the benefit of possible applicants from  outside  the
United  Kingdom,  the Chair is one of two in the York Department;
there are a further 15 Lectureships and  Senior  Lectureships  in
the  Department.   The total teaching strength will grow to 23 by
1988/89.  Both the Chairs and Lectureships are tenured positions.
