Excuse me if this topic has been around -- I don't usually follow this group. Since December, our Arpanet connections are failing much more often than they succeed, particularly to distant sites. I am told that the timeout for these connections is around 30 seconds, and ping reveals round-trip times to be upwards of a minute. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be any way to increase the timeouts if one doesn't have source code for uucico, tn, etc. Surely many brilliant people have come up with ways of dealing with this situation (other than using long-distance phone calls for all connections). Would anyone care to share them? Thanks - Susan -- - Susan Cole USENET: ...!hplabs!sri-unix!cole ARPA: cole@unix.sri.com
