<<<<< Long >>>>> Folks, In order to clarify some questions about JVNCB and Ford, I attach the current configuration of the JVNCnet network. The JVNCnet network has been and still is in the process of a complete upgrade. We appologize for any inconvenience that are the effect of this upgrade. We have in the past, and are committed in the future to provide the best service possible. 1.) Current configuration: 1.a) Number of gateways: Cisco routers 17 VAXs 13 UB routers 6 -- 36 1.b) Number of communication links: T1 lines: 9 56kbps lines: 13 Satellite links: 3 Others (fiber/ether): 1 1.c) Routing protocols: IGP: RIP and IGRP 1.d) External national and international networks: Arpanet (connected to a VAX8600, JVNCA, and to a Cisco router, Ford). NSFnet (NSS8). NORDUnet (connected via Cisco router) JANET (scheduled to be connected to Cisco router) 1.e) Other means of access: Bitnet (via JVNCC.CSC.ORG) Telenet Dial-in 1.f) Total traffic matrix for the month of December: Total number of packets in and out: 531,787,838 Percent of traffic in and out of NSFnet: 22.32% Percent of traffic in and out of ARPANET: 3.36% Percent of traffic in and out of JVNCnet (internal): 74.32% Traffic is sampled once a day from each gateway and stored in database. Note that the amount of traffic, not only internal but within the NSFnet system too (not shown here) is one of the most actively used regional networks. 1.g) Hours of operation: 24 hours/ 7 days a week 1.h) Topology: connection to NORDUnet@Sweden | | Trillian Arthur JVNCB JVNC-Siemens Cisco Cisco VAX Cisco | | | | | | | | ================================================== Ethernet, 128.121.50 | | | | | JVNCA | | | VAX | JVNC-njit (UB) | | | FORD-------PSN16- - - - ZAPHOD Cisco Cisco | | | | | | ================================================ Ethernet, 128.121.54 | | NSFnet NSS8 | JVNC-janet- - -> connection to JANET/UK JVNCA----> Rutgers, U. of Penn., IAS, MIT (4 T1 lines) JVNCB----> NYU, Penn State ( 2 T1 lines) Arthur---> Directly connected: Yale, UMASS (2 56kbps lines) In a ring: All 56kbps lines except Brown-MIT MIT to Harvard, and MIT to JVNC T1 line |---------------------------| | T1 | T1 JVNC-Yale-Wesleyan-Brown----MIT-----Harvard | | | | UMASS-Northeastern-BostonU-----------| | Dartmouth Trillian---> Nordunet, Columbia, Montclair State, Princeton ( 3 56kbps lines, 1 T1 ). JVNC-Siemens-> Scheduled for connection Jan89. Connected on a Fiber link, with ethernet modems. JVNC-NJIT--> NJIT, Stevens, UMDNJ (56kbps lines). 2.) Scheduled changes: The following are estimated dates for up coming upgrades. First week of February: * JVNCA connection to the PSN changing to ZAPHOD. First week of March: * Rutgers, NJIT, UMDNJ and Stevens Tech, re-connected using Cisco routers. Early February: * Connection to JANET. Early March: * Re-connect Nordunet to another Cisco router. There will be more changes to the network topology. Stay tunned. -- Sergio PS: for more information about the JVNCnet network send mail to: "JVNCnet-nic@jvnca.csc.org" for operational problems send mail to: "JVNCnet-noc@jvnca.csc.org" Or contact (609) 520-2000, Network Operations. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sergio Heker tel: (609) 520-2000 Internet: "heker@jvnca.csc.org" Bitnet: "heker@jvnc" JOHN VON NEUMANN NATIONAL SUPERCOMPUTER CENTER, JVNCnet Network Manager -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
