Sponsored by the National Science Foundation
 and the Merit Computer Network
 --------------------------------------
 OVERVIEW

This seminar will provide a thorough introduction to the networking
environment. This day and a half seminar will give you solid answers
to questions you have about connecting to the National Science
Foundation's national network, NSFNET. NSFNET is part of the general
Internet and provides excellent connection to the nation's government
 and academic computing resources.

In the opening session on Monday, April 17, you will get an overview
of the potential benefits for your campus. you will also have an
opportunity to meet directly with mid-level representatives from
institutions already connected to the NSFNET and to attend informal
 question and answer sessions.

In Monday's afternoon session, practical day-to-day issues will be
addressed by experienced computer network professionals. These
issues include mail and campus postmastering and domain management.

A vital part of network operations is the information services
component. In Tuesday's morning session, experts in the area of
documentation and on-line databases will survey these services
 and highlight the key issues.

The Network Operation Center (NOC) is another important aspect
of NSFNET. In the final session of the seminar, you will get an
overview of the solutions to problems which arose in setting up a
NOC for this national network. Scheduling and network management
issues will also be addressed in this session.
