[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] SEND LOCATION in TELNET

ml@gandalf.UUCP (Marcus Leech) (04/05/89)

I'm interested in hearing about TELNET implementations that support the
SEND LOCATION and SEND TERMINAL TYPE options in both the Client and Server
  half of TELNET.

I'm particularly interested in Client implementations that are willing to
interact with something akin to the DNS RESOLVER to discover the type and
location of a terminal placing a TELNET call. We operate a large data
network in which terminals are connected to hosts via a data-pbx. We have
some fairly sophisticated (data)network-management software that arranges
for a called host to become aware of the location and terminal type of a call
placed to that host. We'd like to extend this support to both Client and
  server TELNET.

For those of you who connect all your terminals to TELNET terminal servers,
I'm interested in hearing about commerical terminal servers that provide
the SEND TERMINAL TYPE and SEND LOCATION options.

If anyone has any information on TELNET implementations that support this,
please mail me and I'll post a summary.

If this stuff has been covered before, I apologize. I've only recently become
  re-connected to USENET after a 6-year drought.

Thanx in advance
